Push notifications not arriving

Four layers where push can break — in-app toggle, iOS toggle, Focus modes, rate limits — and how to triage in order.

The 30-second triage

Push notifications can break at four different layers, and the answer depends on which one. Run this in order:

  1. Open the In Eden app once. iOS sometimes pauses notifications from apps you haven't opened in a while. Just launching it usually resumes them.
  2. Check Settings → Notifications inside In Eden. Make sure the category you expected isn't toggled off. We default low-stakes categories (Friend Match, devotionals, referrals) to OFF, on purpose — turning them on is the fix.
  3. Check iOS Settings → Notifications → In Eden. This is the system-level toggle, separate from our in-app one. Both must be on.
  4. Check Do Not Disturb / Focus modes. A "Work" or "Sleep" Focus on your iPhone will silently suppress notifications, including ours.

Eight out of ten cases resolve at step 2 or 3.

Quiet hours are on by default

We respect quiet hours from 10pm to 7am by default. If you expected a DM ping at midnight and didn't get one, that's why — you'll see the notification waiting when you open the app. You can change the quiet-hours window or disable it entirely in Settings → Notifications → Quiet hours.

You muted this Founder

In Eden lets you mute any specific Founder's blasts independently of any other notification preference. If you're in a Founder's group and not seeing her blasts, check Settings → Notifications → Founder blasts — there's a per-Founder list with mute toggles.

You hit a rate limit

If you opened the app, did something that should have notified the other person, and they didn't get a ping — they may have hit a per-thread rate limit. We cap how many push notifications a single thread can fire in a short window so a fast back-and-forth doesn't buzz someone's phone twenty times in a minute. The in-app red dot will still appear; the audible ping just won't.

Reinstalling the app

The nuclear option. Delete In Eden, reinstall from the App Store, sign back in. This refreshes the push token your phone holds for us. We don't lose any of your data — your account lives on our servers, not on your device. Try this if everything else has failed.

Still broken

Email support@ineden.app with:

  • Your iPhone model and iOS version.
  • The category of notification that's missing (DMs / RSVPs / blasts / etc.).
  • When it last worked, if you remember.

We can check on our side whether your push token is valid and whether the notification was actually sent. If we sent it and Apple rejected delivery, there's a specific fix on your end we'll walk you through.
