Two different kinds of talking inside a group
A group has two surfaces that are easy to confuse:
- The message board — the group's curated feed. Only the Founder and co-leads post threads here; members react and comment. It's the calm, broadcast layer. (See The connection handshake for how one-to-one DMs work.)
- Group chat — a live, shared conversation for everyone in the group. This is the room where members actually talk to each other in real time.

Where group chat lives
Every group you've joined has its own chat. You reach it two ways:
- Inside the group — open the group and tap into its chat.
- From Connect — the Community chip in your Connect inbox surfaces recent group-chat activity, one entry per group, most recent first. Tap through to jump straight into the conversation.
How it works
Group chat is a real-time thread shared by the group's members. Messages appear as they're sent, everyone in the group can see and post, and it moves at conversation speed rather than the once-in-a-while rhythm of the board.
It's a member-to-member space, so the same protections apply everywhere else does: every message surface has Report, and blocking someone removes them from your view. See Reporting and blocking.
Chat vs board vs blast — which is which
- Blast — the Founder pushes one message to the whole group across push, email, and an in-app card. One direction, rate-limited. See Your first blast.
- Board — the Founder posts threads; members react and comment. Curated, calm.
- Group chat — everyone talks, in real time. The living room of the group.
Notifications
Group-chat activity follows your notification settings like everything else, and your quiet hours (10pm–7am by default) apply. If a chat gets busy, you can adjust its notifications in Settings → Notifications without leaving the group.
